The volunteer crew were requested to launch their all-weather lifeboat at 4.08pm following a report from the Irish Coast Guard that two people were stranded on a rock at Ross Point with a rising tide.

The lifeboat launched immediately under Coxswain Denise Lynch and with four crew members onboard. The Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115 from Shannon was also tasked.

Weather conditions were warm with spells of sunshine, and a calm sea with light easterly wind.

The lifeboat proceeded to the scene, 22 nautical miles from the station.

As the lifeboat was nearing the scene, the Coxswain received an update from the Coast Guard that the Rescue 115 Helicopter had recovered the two casualties. The lifeboat crew were requested to stand down, as both casualties were safe and well.

Speaking following the call out, Alan Browne, Fenit RNLI Launch Authority said: 'We would like to express our gratitude to our volunteer crew who responded speedily and efficiently to the pager this afternoon and who are willing to respond to the pager, day or night. We would like to wish the casualties well. We would like to commend our colleagues in the Coast Guard and Rescue 115 for a positive outcome.

'We would like to remind anyone planning a trip to the sea to go prepared. Always check the weather and tides in advance and always let someone on the shore know where you are going and when you are due back. Should you get into difficulty or see someone else in trouble, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.'
