Lifeboats News Release

Volunteer fundraisers have raised vital funds during the recent Titanic Exhibition at P&J Live, which brought the story of the world’s most famous ocean liner to Aberdeen.

Over the course of the exhibition, a team of dedicated volunteers from Aberdeen RNLI took turns manning a stall, where they sold raffle tickets, RNLI merchandise and collected donations from generous visitors.

As well as fundraising, the volunteers enjoyed engaging with members of the public, including many families visiting during the Easter holidays. They were particularly impressed by the level of interest shown by children, and enjoyed speaking with younger visitors about the history of the Titanic and the work of the RNLI.

RNLI mascot Stormy also made special appearances throughout the event, proving popular with visitors and helping to create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere at the stall. Stormy was pictured meeting Dik Barton, the first British man to dive to the Titanic who has now completed 22 dives to the wreck.

Karin Ovari, Fundraising Group Chair, said:

“Thank you to everyone who stopped by the stand. It’s been a great opportunity to meet visitors, and to talk about the work we do at Aberdeen lifeboat station. As a charity, the RNLI relies on the generosity of people like this to help us save lives at sea.”

Support from events like this is vital in helping to fund the RNLI’s lifesaving service.

RNLI Aberdeen would like to thank White Star Heritage for inviting us to be part of such a wonderful event, the staff at P&J Live for their help, and our amazing volunteers for giving up their time.
