Temporary delay to remedial works at Sheringham RNLI station

Lifeboats News Release

The remedial works at Sheringham RNLI station are subject to a temporary delay after an investigatory building condition survey uncovered unexpected issues.

It had originally been hoped that the station would be open at the end of the summer in 2026. However, this has now been delayed potentially for a number of months.

Sheringham's station in Norfolk was shut last year after a survey indicated the building required improvement works and the cliff behind it was unstable.

Cover along the coast is being provided by flanking stations RNLI Cromer and RNLI Wells for the period that Sheringham RNLI remains off service.

RNLI North and East Regional Estates Lead Gavin Bartley said: ‘We had hoped to finish the work at Sheringham RNLI lifeboat station by the end of the summer.

‘However, further structural issues uncovered during investigatory building condition survey, means that completion is now unexpectedly delayed.

‘We understand how frustrating this is. But we are determined to ensure that the building work is comprehensive and carried out in a proper manner.

‘This is to ensure the lifeboat station is robust and fit-for-purpose for the next 25 years.’
