Fowey RNLI lifeboat rescues three on broken down boat
On Easter Good Friday 3 March, Falmouth coastguard tasked Fowey RNLI volunteers to launch their Atlantic 85 lifeboat. The coastguard reported that a 20 foot sailing vessel with 3 people on board was having engine trouble out in St Austell Bay.
Fowey’s crew launched the lifeboat at 7:11pm and proceeded to the boat’s location which was in the mussel farm in St Austell Bay. The vessel had no operating propulsion system. The lifeboat removed the casualty vessel from the mussel farm whilst Falmouth Coastguard contacted the nearest safe haven for permission to bring the casualty to that location. Falmouth Coastguard confirmed that the vessel could be towed into Mevagissey and the tow commenced at 7:50pm, arriving in Mevagissey Harbour at 9pm. The casualty vessel was secured and the three people onboard were transferred to shore. The lifeboat then returned to Fowey lifeboat station arriving at 10pm.
