DJ Fatboy Slim visits Shoreham RNLI to show his support for the charity

Lifeboats News Release

Shoreham RNLI was delighted to receive a visit from DJ Fatboy Slim (aka Norman Cook) on Tuesday 31 March, who has kindly donated an auction prize for the lifeboat station's Midsummer Ball on 20 June.

Hove resident Norman Cook, perhaps better known as DJ Fatboy Slim, visited Shoreham RNLI on Tuesday 31 March to meet some of the staff and volunteers and express his support for the charity's work. He kindly brought with him a framed and signed hand-screen print from one of his gigs, which he is donating to one lucky winner at Shoreham RNLI's Midsummer Ball on 20 June.

Norman Cook said: "I'm here at the Shoreham Lifeboat station inviting you to the RNLI summer ball on 20 June at the AMEX. It will be fabulous night out, and you could win this wonderful hand-screen printed gig poster, signed and numbered by the artist and signed by me."

He also expressed his support for the volunteers who make up the heart and soul of the RNLI, encouraging people to get in touch to explore the opportunities currently available. He said: "I don't need to tell you how good a job the lifeboat crew do, or the whole team, so if you want to get involved, please do - it's a wonderful thing to do."

Shoreham RNLI's Midsummer Ball will take place in the evening of Saturday 20 June at the American Express Stadium in Brighton and will be a fantastic chance to celebrate the work of the RNLI's lifesaving volunteers, as well as raise essential funds for the charity. The evening will include a three-course meal, live music, an auction and more!

Tickets cost £65 per person, and can be booked by emailing [email protected]

Simon Williams, Shoreham RNLI Coxswain, said: "It was fantastic to meet Fatboy Slim and hear how much he values the work of the volunteers at Shoreham RNLI. If anyone is interested in volunteering with us, there are always opportunities available, whether that be crew, fundraising, water safety, or shop and visits. There is a role for everyone, so do get in touch!"

Note to editors

Shoreham Harbour RNLI has been saving lives at sea since 1865. Home to a Tamar class all-weather lifeboat, the Enid Collett, and a D class inshore lifeboat, the Joan Woodland, the crew respond to, on average, 80 to 90 shouts a year, covering an area from Brighton Marina to Worthing Pier. The station is run by around 100 volunteers who include a lifeboat operations manager, launch authorities, boat and shore crew, an administrative officer, press officers, fundraisers, shop staff, a visits team, and water safety advisers.
