RNLI long-serving volunteers Roger Watts, 81, and David Barber, 80, received awards and recognition at a special ceremony in Faringdon.

Both have served over 20 years and, as a mark of appreciation, regional community manager Sally Hutton presented framed certificates, badges and handsome glass pieces.

Faringdon and District branch chair Dave Thompson said: "There was a great turnout for two of our members who've done so much for the branch over the years -- and remain committed."

The presentations were topped off by the cutting of a special cake iced with a representation of one of the RNLI's latest vessels heading for action.

Thompson said: : "Thanks go to Sally who drove nearly six hours there and back from her base to do the honours and secretary Denis Pope for making his home available to host the event."

Watts is a former master butcher while Barber spent most of his working life in retail. His son Matthew is Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner.
