For the first time a new group will now plan the week under the
leadership of one of the lifeboat’s sea – going crew.

Helm Mark Ellis, whose full-time job away from volunteering is self
employed paramedic, has been appointed as Event Lead for the
week which is one of the biggest annual fundraisers for the lifesaving
charity. For the first time next year’s event will be held in mid-
August, from Saturday 15th to the 23rd.

Mark, 42, says his aim is to bring lifeboat crew and fundraisers
together to boost the already hugely successful event.
He added: ‘The new structure will allow us to focus more effectively
on planning and delivering a fantastic week of events whilst also
encouraging more involvement from the lifeboat crew.’

The Lyme Regis and Charmouth Lifeboat Supporters group will
continue its fundraising role under a new chairperson, Oliver Mullen.
He takes over from Ken Lavery, who steps down next month. Oliver
said: ‘Ken has worked tirelessly for the fundraising group and will
continue to do so as a volunteer.’

A lifeboat service in Lyme Regis began on February 22nd in 1826 and
a number of special events are being planned for the anniversary.
Mark Ellis said: ‘ Next year will be very special for our volunteers,
whatever their role, and, indeed, for the town and I think I can
promise a memorable anniversary.’
