Angle RNLI launch twice in one day

Lifeboats News Release

Angle RNLI lifeboat crew were paged to two seperate incidents on Sunday 5 October.

Angle lifeboat crew were paged at 8.52am on Sunday morning, following reports of a 4.8m motorboat that had lost power near the Jolly Sailor in Burton. The vessel had deployed its anchor but was dragging slightly, putting it at risk of running aground.

The lifeboat launched shortly after 9am and was on scene within 20 minutes. After an assessment between the coxswain, boat owner and HM Coastguard, it was decided that the best course of action was to establish a tow, this was due to concerns for the welfare of those onboard and the vessel posed a navigation risk to other waterway users.

The vessel was safely brought alongside the pontoon at Rudder Boatyard. With no further assistance required, the lifeboat returned to station and was made ready for service again by 10.15am

Later that same day shortly after 7pm, the lifeboat crew were tasked with assisting three teenagers who had become cut off by the tide between Conduit Beach and Hakin Point. Also tasked to the incident was a Port Authority pilot boat, which using its searchlights, located the teenagers stranded on rocks in close proximity the pilot boat jetty.

With the pilot boat unable to get close enough to safely recover the individuals, the lifeboat’s Y-boat was launched, while the pilot boat remained on scene and illuminated the area for the crew. With the all-weather lifeboat standing by alongside the jetty.

The pilot boat then had to leave to carry out duties. At this point, the all-weather lifeboat departed the jetty and continued illuminating the scene for the Y-boat, who safely recovered all three teenagers. Thankfully they were uninjured and did not require medical attention.

All individuals were brought aboard the all-weather lifeboat and landed safely at the Port Authority jetty.
With no further assistance required, the lifeboat returned to station and was made ready for service again by 7.50pm.
