Busy morning for Angle RNLI lifeboat
At 7.40am yesterday morning (Thuursday 2 September), Angle RNLI lifeboat crew were paged following a report of a 12m fishing vessel that had lost all power approximately 3 miles southeast of Grassholm Island.
A tow was established, and a course was set for Milford Docks. The tow lasted over 2 hours. Upon arrival off Milford, the vessel was brought into an alongside tow, where the lifeboat and casualty vessel were able to lock in and safely berth the fishing boat against the dock wall by 11.52am.
With no further assistance required, the lifeboat was stood down. While in the marina, the crew took the opportunity to refuel and awaited the next available lock to return to station.
At 12.40pm, as the lifeboat was preparing to come alongside the pilot boat jetty, a second tasking came through, a Man Overboard (MOB) alarm had been activated from a vessel within Milford Marina. The Coastguard requested the lifeboat to investigate.
Upon arrival, it was quickly determined that the alarm was a false activation. Crew members went ashore to the pontoons, located the vessel and spoke with the owner, who confirmed the MOB device had been set off by mistake and no assistance was required.
The lifeboat was stood down and finally back on station, ready for service, at 1.17pm.
Thanks go to The Lord Nelson for delivering the much appreciated bacon rolls to the crew at the lock this morning, after they missed breakfast due to the early shout. A special thank you also to Milford Marina, who despite ongoing inspections and limited lock access, went out of their way to make a lock available to ensure the casualty vessel could be brought safely alongside.
