RNLI Scarborough Joins Scarborough Comic-Con to Promote Lifesaving Work
Scarborough RNLI volunteers attended the annual ComiCon Sci-Fi Fair on 9 November 2025, an event dedicated to cosplay, collecting toys, games, and supporting local charities. This year, Comic-Con chose RNLI as its beneficiary.
The fair featured numerous stalls selling Sci-Fi merchandise and welcomed many special guests like Chris Barrie, star of Red Dwarf, who kindly donated a signed, limited-edition DVD to help raise funds for RNLI. We also ran an RNLI-themed quiz, which proved popular and encouraged generous donations.
Thanks to the generosity of visitors, the event raised an impressive £604 for RNLI. In addition to the funds raised, RNLI volunteers left with six sacks of toys and games and three boxes of DVDs, which will further support our fundraising efforts. It was an incredible day celebrating Sci-Fi fandom while promoting lifesaving work at sea.
We were delighted to have Face-to-Face fundraisers and members of the Ladies Lifeboat Guild represent the RNLI at the event, helping to engage visitors and share the RNLI message.
Gladys Fox, Scarborough Ladies Lifeboat Guild Chair, said: ‘It was wonderful to see so many people supporting the RNLI while enjoying the Sci-Fi Fair. Every donation helps us continue our vital work saving lives at sea, and we’re so grateful to everyone who contributed.’
We would also like to thank David and Alison Young of J&J Christian on Sandside, a family-run business that has supported RNLI for many years. Since 2015, they have donated proceeds from carrier bag sales, raising an amazing £3,000 to date. Their continued generosity makes a real difference.
Thank you to everyone who supported RNLI at the Sci-Fi Fair and beyond. Your contributions help us save lives at sea.
