Burnham-on-Sea RNLI Lifeboat volunteers were called to action by Milford Haven HM Coastguard control on Sunday evening, 16th November, at 8.40 pm.

A member of the public had reported a sighting of red distress flares in Bridgwater Bay. The station D class lifeboat Burnham Reach was quickly launched and the volunteer crew proceeded to search, in liaison with a Coastguard rescue team, who were also searching, but from from the shore.

Visibility was good, and sea state calm. To aid searching, two flares were sent up, but in the end nothing was found, and the volunteers were stood down, to return their craft to Burnham beach for recovery by the shore crew. The lifeboat was washed down and made ready for the next service.

Helmsman Nathan Meager said; ‘As usual, we worked in liaison with the Coastguard rescue team, but in the end we were stood down by Milford Control.

A 8.5m Atlantic 85 named Doris Day and Brian plus a smaller 4.95m D class IB1 inflatable named Burnham Reach The station was opened officially on 15th May 2004, but has been operational since December 2004.
