Rhyl Lifeboat Stalwart Receives Long Service Award
RNLI Volunteer Jeff Dyson was recently presented with a 50 years long service medal during a regional meeting hosted by the RNLI’s Chief Executive, Peter Sparks.
Jeff joined the crew at Rhyl in 1973, where he crewed the station Inshore and All-Weather Lifeboats, eventually working his way up to become the stations 2nd Mechanic.
When Jeff stepped down from sea going crew he became one of the stations main tractor drivers, helping to launch and recover the all-weather lifeboat.
Now retired off the crew Jeff continues to help out at the station on the Visits Team, where he shows members of the public around the station, and telling anecdotes from his past rescues.
Volunteers from Rhyl gathered at the station to hear about the RNLI’s five-year plan via an online briefing from the RNLI’s Chief Executive, Peter Sparks. During the briefing to the region, Peter took a break to say a few words about Jeff’s career with the RNLI, and then asked Rhyl stations Chaplin, Canon John Glover DL to present Jeff with his Long Service Medal.
Mark Budd, Rhyl Lifeboat Operations Manager said “It was great that as a Region of Wales, West and the Isle of Man we were able to come together to celebrate Jeff’s incredible five decades of volunteer service to the RNLI and the local community. Jeff has held many roles at the station, but in every one of them, he has come with enthusiasm and a passion to help save lives at sea. Everyone at the station, and I’m sure the whole community would like to thank him for his service”.
