Enniskillen RNLI assist 3 people on Lower Lough Erne
At 3:46am on Sunday 11 May, Enniskillen RNLI’s inshore lifeboat, John and Jean Lewis, was launched at the request of Belfast Coastguard, to assess a vessel with three adults on board, which had broken down.
The volunteer crew located the casualty vessel, just off Inish Davar Island. The vessel had experienced engine failure. The lifeboat crew then assessed the casualty vessel for any damage and water ingress and found all to be in a safe condition. Those onboard were well, although cold. The decision was made to tow the vessel to the Manor House Marina, where the three people onboard were safely handed over to the Lough Erne Coastguard Rescue Team.
The lifeboat then returned to the station ready for service.
Speaking following the call out, Helm, Paul Keown, advised all boat users: ‘‘With people making the most of the good weather we would advise all boat users before setting out on your journey to please plan your route ahead making sure to check the navigational marks on the water. Have a means of calling for assistance if you find yourself in trouble and have lifejackets for all on board. If you see someone or something in trouble on the water or are in difficulties yourself the number to dial is: 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.’’
