Teddington Family Gets the RNLI ‘Bug’ from their Mum
Like mother like daughter and sons in the Lowe family from Teddington
All three Lowe children are undertaking part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award Bronze and Gold scheme activity with Teddington RNLI Lifeboat Station and it’s all down to their mum, Jan. Jan and husband, Sam joined the volunteer crew in 2022 and became a fully fledged boat crew member in 2023. She is just one of the several mums who volunteer at the lifeboat station in a variety of roles.
Anna, 13, said, ‘Watching Mum go out whenever her pager goes off has made me think about how important the RNLI is to those who live near the river.’ Dan, 17, added, ‘When I got the opportunity to help out at Teddington RNLI Lifeboat Station as part of undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, I grabbed it with both hands.’ Tom, also 17 is also thrilled to be part of the Teddington crew, ‘Our Mum is an inspiration and what better way to thank her on Mother’s Day than joining her crew!’ Jan added, ‘I am so proud of my three children and the way that they have embraced the RNLI and its values. It’s yellow wellies all round in the Lowe household!’
Matt Allchurch, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Teddington RNLI said, ‘Mother’s Day is an opportunity to thank not only the mums who volunteer with us, but also their families. It is a privilege to welcome those families to be part of our crew.’
