Dungeness RNLI welcomes new full time coxswain
Jon Morgan began his role as a full time staff member in January 2025 and on Thursday 27 March 2025, he successfully passed his coxswain assessment and will now take his place as Dungeness’ full time coxswain.
Jon, who has built a career in the construction industry, joined the charity as a volunteer over 10 years ago after attending the lifeboat station open day. After chatting to the crew and realising he didn’t need maritime experience, he signed up and began the world-class training that the charity provides.
Vicky Morgan, Lifeboat Operations Manager, says:
‘Jon started out as shore crew then progressed to boat crew and through his hard work and dedication, he went on to become Navigator and then Shannon Afloat Mechanic. He has now passed out as Coxswain, taking command of the lifeboat and taking the lead at the lifeboat station.
I am incredibly proud of him and the whole team that consistently work so hard to provide training opportunities and support to all that volunteer or work at the station.’
Jon takes the reins from Jason Adams, preceding full time coxswain, who has taken full time employment elsewhere but will continue to volunteer at Dungeness.
Jon is a key figurehead at Dungeness Lifeboat station and as his experience has grown over the years, he has provided training and support to new recruits and is highly respected by all volunteers.
If you are interested in volunteering at Dungeness RNLI, we have a number of opportunities available, no maritime experience needed. Contact [email protected] or 01797 320317 for more information.
