Newhaven RNLI on the lookout for new shop volunteers
Volunteers are at the heart of Newhaven RNLI, a lifesaving service that has been going strong since 1803. The lifeboat station is looking for a volunteer shop manager and shop volunteers in Newhaven to help the charity raise vital funds.
The lifesaving charity is looking for a volunteer shop manager and shop volunteers to join the existing team of dedicated volunteers. The shop manager role is an important role in which you would be coordinating other volunteers, training them in operating the till and card machine, and championing the RNLI.
Susan Carroll, Chair of the Lifeboat Management Group, said: ‘RNLI shops are often the first time members of the public encounter our lifesaving charity. Volunteering with us in our shop as our shop manager or a shopkeeper is a great way to have fun, meet new people, and help the RNLI save lives at sea, without getting wet!’
RNLI shops started life as simple cake stalls, run by volunteers and their supporters to raise money for the local Lifeboats and stations. These stalls started selling commemorative RNLI products in around 1920 and quickly moved on to selling souvenirs and Christmas cards.
Rebecca Futrall, Community Manager, said: ‘We’re looking for enthusiastic people who are good communicators, happy to work in a team environment and willing to be proactive within the local community.’
Rebecca added: ‘Volunteering as a manager in our shops is a vital role and every conversation our volunteers have with customers contributes to lifesaving by raising money, sharing water safety knowledge or inspiring the next generation of lifeboat crew.’
