Enniskillen RNLI assist two jet skiers on Lower Lough Erne

Lifeboats News Release

At 6:58pm yesterday (Monday 24 March), Enniskillen RNLI’s inshore lifeboat, the John and Jean Lewis, was launched at the request of Belfast Coastguard following reports that jet skiers had reported getting into difficulties west of Castle Archdale.

Winds were south westerly, Force 3 at the time. Visibility was poor with darkness and mist/fog.

Initial reports suggested the casualties were close to Muckross, however, the Coastguard identified they were closer to Castle Archdale. The lifeboat helmed by Stephen Ingram, made their way to the scene to assess the situation. Once there, the volunteer crew located two jet skiers - one jet ski had an entangled rope and the other had ran out of fuel. Both people were well but starting to get cold so were taken onboard the lifeboat and wrapped in an emergency blanket. They were then taken to Castle Archdale where the crew were met by the Lough Erne Coastguard team and the Fire and Rescue Service.

Speaking following the call out, Enniskillen RNLI Helm Stephen Ingram, thanked all those who assisted for the multi-agency response: 'We would always advise those using our waterways to carry a means of calling for help. Tell someone else where you’re going and when you’ll be back. Always check your equipment, and if you see someone in trouble on the water or are in difficulties yourself, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.'
