Beaumaris Lifeboat volunteers assist a fishing boat with engine failure.
At 11.54 am on Friday 14 March 2025 the volunteer crew members of the Beaumaris lifeboat received a page from the U.K. Coastguard relating to a vessel with engine failure drifting towards rocks in the Menai Straits.
The Beaumaris Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington with her volunteer crew launched at 12.08 pm and proceeded towards the location given for the craft.
In addition to the Beaumaris Lifeboat volunteers the Mobile Coastguard Rescue teams from, Rhosneigr had been tasked to attend. However, their presence was not required so they stood down..
Once at the scene whilst the boat had an anchor deployed, she was touching the shore in the tide, in view of the strength of the current it was doubtful if this would hold the vessel overnight.
Having ensured that all was well with the two adults aboard. an assessment was made by the helm as to the best course of action. It was decided for safety reasons that the boat should be towed to the nearest convenient all-weather mooring at Caernarfon; the vessel crew being transferred ashore near Brynsiencyn once the owner was satisfied that the craft was securely moored.
Once this had been completed the lifeboat was released by the coastguard to return to her station.at Beaumaris returning at 2.03 pm to be refuelled and cleaned. Once this had been completed the crew left the station.
A RNLI spokesman said, ‘the crew aboard the boat did the correct thing in requesting assistance once they became aware of the strength of the tide ‘.
