RNLI Portsmouth Lifeboat Station celebrates International Women’s Day
Saturday 8 March is International Women’s Day 2025 which aims to celebrate and promote the achievements of women. Across the RNLI, we are celebrating our women who help us save lives at sea.
Portsmouth Lifeboat station is celebrating International Women’s Day by highlighting the vital contribution of its female volunteers in roles including management, helms, boat and shore crew.
With women representing 30% of the volunteers at the station, Portsmouth embrace the theme of accelerating action towards gender equality.
For 2025 we are asking women and allies to increase momentum and urgency in addressing biases that women may face.
We’re celebrating all the women at Portsmouth Lifeboat Station who support us in saving lives at sea. From our lifeboat and shore crew members to our committee, fundraiser, water safety and shop volunteers as well as other vital roles, thank you all for your lifesaving commitment to the RNLI.
And a huge thank you to the mums, sisters, friends, partners, wives, daughters, aunts, grandmothers and more who support our volunteers in their lifesaving work.
This week, around 80 women from across the RNLI, each fulfilling a variety of lifeboat station roles, came together for the RNLI’s #WomenInSAR Training Week at the RNLI College in Poole, Dorset.
The action-packed five-day event aimed to bring together women from our RNLI lifeguard and lifeboat teams across the UK and Ireland to inspire, connect and share their experiences while learning new skills.
