RNLI New Brighton celebrates International Women’s Day

Lifeboats News Release

Saturday 8 March was International Women’s Day 2025, a day which aims to celebrate and promote the achievements of women. The volunteers at New Brighton wanted to celebrate the women on station who all play an integral part in saving lives at sea.

Over the weekend New Brighton hosted a coffee morning which brought together not only the women that make up their own station, but women from their flank stations and HM Coastguard rescue teams as well.

The event had representatives from multiple roles held by women at station from fundraisers, shop volunteers and local management groups, to operational crew, such as lifeboat crew, shore crew and launch authorities.

This gave all volunteers the chance to celebrate achievements, share stories, connect and have conversations about their roles and experiences saving lives at sea.

For 2025, the theme for International Women’s Day is Accelerate Action, asking women and allies to increase momentum and urgency in addressing biases that women face.

Steph, Crew Member at New Brighton said: ‘We wanted to celebrate a more diverse RNLI and a crucial part of that is encouraging the women in search and rescue roles and inspiring the next generation. Our coffee morning was a huge success. By bringing together the women from different local stations and our Coastguard team we were able to talk about experiences and share knowledge and ideas for future bigger events’.
