Montrose RNLI volunteer Dave Guthrie receives 20-year service award
A local volunteer has been awarded a 20-year long service award for his dedication to the RNLI in Montrose.
Dave Guthrie began his journey as a trainee lifeboat crew member in March 2004 and has since dedicated two decades to saving lives at sea. He also held the position of Helm on the station's D-Class lifeboat for many years.
Dave says: 'It was during a visit from a Dutch lifeboat crew that I was asked to join the crew. Living in a coastal town and knowing the strength and dangers of the sea from being young, I signed right up. I work with an excellent crew and enjoy the friendship and comradeship when we are out either training or saving lives at sea.'
He recalled his first shout as being one he will never forget. It was during the construction of the new road bridge across the River South Esk that a worker entered the water, the station D-Class was requested to launch and quickly rescued the man from the water.
Prior to joining the lifeboat crew, Dave was already a supporter of the Montrose RNLI. The local pub landlord organized a charity bottle, which has seen numerous bottles broken over the years, contributing an estimated £15,000 to RNLI Montrose.
Derek Smart, Lifeboat Operations Manager says: 'Dave is a valuable member of our lifeboat crew. His dedication and teamwork, coupled with his professionalism in saving lives at sea, are commendable. Congratulations, Dave, from all of us at Montrose lifeboat station.'
Montrose RNLI Lifeboat Station expresses its gratitude to Dave for his exceptional commitment and charitable contributions. His 20 years of service serve as an inspiration to the entire RNLI community.
