Blyth RNLI launched to EPIRB activation
On the evening of Sunday 23d February volunteer from Blyth RNLI were requested to launch due to an EPIRB activation.
The Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat was launched with four volunteer crew on board. They were requested by UK Coastguard to head towards the windfarm East of the Port of Blyth.
Once on scene the volunteer crew carried out a search area of the area whilst awaiting detailed search instructions from UK Coastguard.
Whilst the volunteer crew were searching the area UK Coastguard received a request for assistance from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service due to a boat being on fire in the Blyth Boating Association.
The boat was ashore and it was confirmed to be the vessel that the EPIRB (Emergency Position Indication Radio Beacon) belonged to.
The volunteer crew were therefore stood down by UK Coastguard and able to return to the lifeboat station within the Port of Blyth.
UK Coastguard confirmed that they had received hits for the EPIRB in the area the Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat was tasked too and also in the area where the boat was on fire, and that this was being investigated.
