Our duty Launch Authority was informed that a male had been seen walking in to the water at Mullion Cove with further reports (from members of the public to the Coastguard) that a body had been seen in the water close to the initial reported location.

The Lizard Lifeboat launched on service at 10.10pm, under the command of Second Coxswain Darren Thirlaway and six crew members just eight minutes after their pagers had sounded. Arriving on scene at 10.32pm an immediate and carefully carried out shoreline search of the area commenced covering the north and south of Mullion Cove. With this area thoroughly searched, a new search pattern began with our crew tirelessly searching further until 1.37am.

We were joined by our colleagues from Penlee Lifeboat, Coastguard Rescue Helicopters 924 and 187, Coastguard Rescue teams from Mullion & Porthoustock were also on scene assisting. Thankfully it was confirmed that the suspected body seen in the water was in fact a pot buoy and with all search patterns completed with no trace of the reported casualty, RNLI units were stood down allowing a return to station.

RNLB Rose arrived back at the station at 2.05am where she was rehoused and made ready for service again when required by 2.28am. Another excellent response to the sounding of their pagers from The Lizard Lifeboat 'boat' and shore crews.
