Horton and Port Eynon Lifeboat Launched for search

At approximately 10pm last night, the Mumbles All Weather Lifeboat (‘ALB’) and Inshore Lifeboat (‘ILB’) together with the Horton and Port Eynon ILB were launched following a report from an off duty police officer that a person was cut off by the tide at Three Cliffs Bay.

All lifeboats made best speed to Three Cliffs Bay. The conditions were challenging for the ILBs in particular as the weather and sea conditions worsened with nightfall.

Upon arrival a shoreline search by the crews of the lifeboats was carried out. They were supported by the Coastguard on land. A large swell running in the sea meant that getting close to the shore was difficult, notwithstanding this the crews of the lifeboats managed to make a thorough search of the Area. When no one in difficulty was located, and with no further information, HM Coastguard concluded that the person had managed to make their way back to safety and so the search was called off.

Mumbles ALB kindly escorted the Horton and Port Eynon ILB back to the safety of Port Eynon Bay before returning back to Mumbles.

A spokesman for both lifeboats stations said:-

‘If you find yourself in difficulty or see someone in difficulty on or near the coast, phone 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

If walking at or near the coast always take a phone with you or a radio so that you can summon help if necessary. Also tell someone who is not walking with you where you are going and when you anticipate being home so they can summon help if you are late. ’
