Oban fundraising lead represents RNLI at Holyrood Palace
The central role of Oban Lifeboat’s fundraising team has been recognised as the group’s chair was invited, alongside other volunteers from the charity, to the King’s Holyrood Garden Party.
Fiona Campbell and her husband Andrew were joined by the RNLI’s operations lead for Scotland and representatives of the crews from Mallaig and Loch Ness at the event on Tuesday. Queen Camilla spent some time during the afternoon talking to the RNLI guests.
Fiona said: ‘In spite of a chilly grey day in Edinburgh, it was lovely to attend the King’s Garden Party ‘for services to the RNLI’.
‘After a year as a volunteer fundraiser, I’ve now been chair of our local group for just over two years.
‘It’s been a challenge at times, but I’m so proud of our now 20-strong Oban fundraiser group who willingly turn out rain, hail or shine to help with events and staff our part-time shop.
‘It was good to meet the Queen and the many other interesting people - including fellow RNLI invitees - and hear their stories. Many of us can’t offer the remarkable 30 or 50 years’ service of the RNLI’s outstanding volunteers, so it’s a great encouragement to the rest of us to have our local work recognised.’
