Axe Yacht Club Commodore Tom Preston and fundraising lead Steve Robertson were met by volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer Nick Marks and shown around the lifeboat station where they met volunteer lifeboat crew, saw the equipment they use and discussed the training needed to deliver a 24/7 lifesaving service 365 days per year.

Steve Robertson explained that the yacht club committee had decided to make a determined effort to raise the maximum amount of money for the RNLI in 2024, the year in which the charity celebrated its 200th anniversary. A total of £6,144 was raised from events including an auction, a barbeque, a pig racing night and a raffle. Events were well supported by club members and by local businesses. £500 was donated to the Seaton and Beer branch of the RNLI, with the remaining £5644 being donated to Lyme Regis RNLI lifeboat station.

Lifeboat Operations Manager Mark Colley said: ‘We are very pleased that Tom and Steve from Axe Yacht Club were able to visit us today and take a station tour. We are very grateful for the club’s efforts in raising this huge amount. It is donations like this which enable the RNLI to continue its work in saving lives at sea.’

Axe Yacht Club Commodore Tom Preston said: ‘As water users it is natural for our members to support the RNLI in this way. We really do value the work its volunteers do in the area and further afield. A number of our members have been rescued by Lyme Regis lifeboat over the years and this donation is our way of saying thank you to the lifesaving charity.’
