Fowey RNLI lifeboat launched to unmanned inflatable

In their second shout of the week, Fowey RNLI lifeboat volunteers were tasked to launch their D class at 3.15 on Wednesday 22 January, in response to a request from Falmouth Coastguard.

A member of the public had reported seeing an apparently unmanned blue inflatable kayak near the cliffs in the Carlyon Bay area. The Fowey crew were asked to locate the kayak and determine if it had been recently occupied.

Once on scene an extensive shoreline and inshore search was conducted with no sign of the kayak. St Austell coastguard rescue team were also in attendance. At 4pm, after a rendezvous with the coastguard team the crew were stood down The incident was considered to be a false alarm with good intent.

On their way back to the station, the crew were lucky enough to be accompanied by dolphins.
