Peter joined the volunteer crew at Stonehaven in January 2020 as shore crew. Since then he qualified as a RNLI tractor driver, is one of the station’s deputy launch authorities and is also a community water safety advisor.

When he’s not volunteering with the RNLI Peter enjoys travelling with his wife and visiting his three children and five grandchildren. He is also involved with community drama productions – from set building, stage management to directing productions.

Having lived in various coastal towns in Scotland, Peter always had a great respect for the role of the RNLI and its volunteers. And it was on his retirement that Peter felt he had the time to devote to the charity. With a background in IT management and having worked in the Merchant Navy and Oil and Gas Industry, Peter brought with him a wealth of knowledge and experience.

‘I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of Stonehaven RNLI’s volunteer crew over the last five years’ Peter says, ‘and was honoured to be asked to take on the role of Lifeboat Operations Manager, and humbled to have the encouragement and support of the whole team at Stonehaven.’

‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank my predecessor Andy Martin, who has been station LOM for the last six years. He took the station through the Covid pandemic ensuring we remained on service, and most notably has been a key figure in the development of our new station building which will come into use later this year. As one of our most experienced volunteer helms we are grateful that Andy will be remaining part of Stonehaven RNLI’s volunteer crew.’
