Dr Wood was in general practice in Mullion for a period of around 40 years and during this time took up the role of Honorary Medical Advisor for The Lizard and Cadgwith lifeboat stations. Remaining just as The Lizard Lifeboat medical advisor when the Cadgwith station closed in 1963. Dr Wood was later awarded by the institution the honour of Life President.
With his dedication to The Lizard and Cadgwith lifeboats over the last 70 years and for his contribution in both first aid training and occupational health Dr Wood is to be commended by us all for his incredible commitment to the RNLI and The Lizard RNLI Lifeboat Station over so many years.
During his affiliation with The Lizard Lifeboat Station Dr Wood had been associated with Coxswains Bunny Legge, Peter ‘Pan’ Mitchell, Philip Burgess, Andrew Putt, Russ Craig, Dan Atkinson and most recently Phil Woodcock.
Our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Dr Wood. Our station flag is currently flying at half-mast.
The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 146,000 lives.
