Lifeboat volunteers Vanessa and Tom exchange caps.

After a tour of St Agnes RNLI lifeboat station Vanessa and lifeboat press officer Tom Knight exchanged the cap and an official RNLI beanie in recognition of the shared lifesaving endeavors of their volunteer crews. The visitor from Victoria, Australia was impressed by the standard of lifesaving equipment used by RNLI crew but also the level of exposure that the D-class volunteer crew experiences remarking,

“You guys are hardcore. We wear caps, you wear helmets!”

Vanessa, who grew up in Cornwall and still has family in St Agnes, returns to Australia tomorrow. She is unlikely to wear her new RNLI headgear as Victoria is experiencing a heatwave with temperatures as high as 38°C.
