Gravesend Volunteer presented excellence in volunteering award
Volunteer Ross Boushear of 16 years has been presented an excellence in volunteering for illustrating & producing Gravesend Lifeboat Station’s Crew Cards.
Station Manager Ian Smith who presented the award said, ‘Ross’s dedication to supporting our crew simply couldn’t go unrecognised, he’s spent a significant amount of his own time re-designing his local knowledge check cards first released in 2017.
‘From an early stage, we expect our new volunteers to have a good understanding of our 26 mile patch, that means memorising all reaches between Woolwich & Canvey Island as well as location & names of navigation markers and buoys.’
As volunteer crew members progress through OCF ranks, further knowledge is expected of them including name & locations of all casualty landing points, causeways, piers & berths.
Ian added, ‘These check cards provide a real support aid to our volunteers, Ross has spent countless hours compiling the data into easy to understand illustrations and personalised them to each volunteer with their crew number.’
