The lifeboat arrived alongside the anchored vessel at 2.29pm and a crew member was transferred onboard following which the craft and its single occupant was taken under tow for Whitstable Harbour where the station shore crew assisted in mooring the motor cruiser alongside the South Quay.

The casualty vessel had suffered a failure of its inboard diesel engine. Weather conditions at the time of the incident were good visibility a force 3 wind and slight sea.

This was the 3rd call of the year for the volunteer crews at Whitstable RNLI.

Whitstable’s lifeboat Lewisco is away from the station undergoing a refit.

  • The station is equipped with an Atlantic 85 lifeboat named Lewisco, purchased through a bequest of a Miss Lewis of London who passed away in 2006.

  • She is what is known as a rigid inflatable inshore lifeboat, the boat’s rigid hull being topped by an inflatable sponson. She carries a crew of four people.
