This incredible achievement was down to a combined effort from shop volunteers, boathouse visits team, fundraising event volunteers, box collectors, bucket collectors, the water safety team, the face-to-face team, the Lifeguards, and the boat and shore crew for raising the profile of the RNLI in Teignmouth and helping to raise those funds. A significant amount (£67,488) of the total was raised by our shop volunteers, their dedication to manning the RNLI gift shop at Teignmouth Lifeboat Station has surely reaped rewards.

Fundraising and engagement chair Wendy Richards Wood also extended thanks to ‘all of our supporters for helping to boost funds for 2024 by running events and collecting monies on our behalf and for all the wonderful donations from many sources.’ Last year was a year of change for the volunteer fundraising and engagement team with several long standing volunteers taking a step back, and the re-location to sunnier climates for the fundraising chairman, Adrian and wife Beverly who also volunteered as fundraising treasurer.

However despite these changes the fundraising total was only £506 short on the totals raised in 2023, highlighting how hard the team pulled together and remained focused on raising the vital funds needed to save lives at sea. In recognition of those who have been with Teignmouth Lifeboat Station for many years and are now standing down or scaling back their fundraising activities, and to all those who have gone the extra mile, Wendy presented a number of RNLI Certificates of Thanks to the following; Adrian and Beverly Knowles, Caroline Walker, Keith and Judy Langford, Pat Davy, Roma Edge, Mary Watt, Brian Arnett, Morgan & Di Willmot, Sue & Mike Howell, Tony Brooks - Daw.

Looking ahead to 2025 the team have already been busy planning their approach for the year with the funding and engagement team leads putting their heads together earlier in the year to help draw up a strategic plan for the activities planned. It looks set to be another busy year at Teignmouth Lifeboat Station, with the shop team already back in action after a brief winter break, and the visits team getting ready to start their season in the coming Spring. Anne Steele Arnett is well into her marathon training, and committed to raising funds for Teignmouth RNLI ahead of this years London Marathon in just a matter of weeks.

Volunteer Events Lead, Claire Drew, joined the station towards the end of last year, successfully undertaking the challenge of organising the Boxing Day Walk in the Sea as her first event in post. When asked about plans for this year Claire said ‘the team have some fantastic plans in place to help raise the funds needed to save lives at sea. Some of our most popular events look set to make a return with additional events and fundraising ideas also being investigated’.
