RNLI on the lookout for lifeguards in East Sussex ahead of the 2025 season

Lifeboats News Release

Fancy becoming a lifeguard in Bexhill, Hastings and Camber Sands this summer? The RNLI is looking for lifeguards to join us for the 2025 season, on beaches in Hastings and Camber Sands.

Can you swim 400m in under 7½ minutes, run 200m under 40 seconds on a beach or swim 25 meters in 50 seconds? And do you enjoy spending time on the beach keeping people safe all summer long? Joining the RNLI as a lifeguard may be the perfect summer job for you!

The roles last for the summer season, but many lifeguards use the comprehensive training as a springboard to a career in emergency or public services, or to find jobs abroad.

Bexhill, Hastings and Camber Sands are some of East Sussex's most beloved beaches. Hastings beach is a mix of sand, shingle and cliffs. Camber Sands is a stretch of sandy beach that is home to the only sand dune system in East Sussex. Both beaches are locations which tourists flock to in the summer. Both beaches are popular summer destinations, attracting tourists from far and wide.

Hugh Richardson, Lead Lifeguard Supervisor, said: ‘No two days are the same as a RNLI lifeguard. We provide recruits with world class training in rescue techniques and casualty care and get the opportunity to work alongside external agencies such as HM Coastguard, SECAmb and RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews.'

Applicants need to be aged 16 or over on the day of their assessment, hold a National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ), and meet our criteria. Click here to find out more.
