Oban Lifeboat responds to report of a paddle boarder in trouble

Lifeboats News Release

Oban Lifeboat launched on service, this afternoon, following a call from a member of the public, reporting that a person on a paddle board was possibly in trouble at sea near Dunbeg and heading towards Lismore.

Arriving on scene the volunteer crew of The Campbell-Watson started a search of the area. A fresh South Westerly breeze would have been blowing any casualty in the direction of Dunstaffnage/Ardmucknish Bay area.

With the area searched and no sign of anyone in trouble, the crew were preparing to stand down when a report from Oban Coastguard rescue team confirmed that they had established contact with a paddle boarder who was safely ashore and had not been in any difficulty.

This call out was a false alarm with good intent. If you see someone who may be in trouble in the water, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
