Teignmouth RNLI visits team volunteer sets sights on 2025 London Marathon
Volunteer visits crew, Anne Steele Arnett from Teignmouth Lifeboat Station is running this years London Marathon, with the aim to raise funds to help save lives at sea.
Anne is no stranger to the London Marathon, after completing it for the first time in 2024 and raising an impressive £3,000 in the name of Teignmouth RNLI. Not content with the 26.2 miles of marathon running, Anne continued by taking part in the MayDay Mile fundraising event, as a ‘cool down’, running a mile a day in May 2024.
Anne started running at 69 years of age when most of us are considering taking life at a more genteel pace, but not Anne! She took to running after a bone was removed from her hand which prevented her from playing her beloved golf. The dog walking increased, then jogging became a familiar activity, then Couch to 5k, weight training and then weekly Parkrun’s and volunteering on Saturday mornings on the sea front.
Anne was then inspired to join Dawlish Coasters, for morale support as well as gaining knowledge and insight from fellow runners. With 13 weeks to go before the London Marathon, there is a lot of training to be done as well as a lot of fund-raising planning and support!
Anne has plans to launch a ‘Guess the Time Square’ and has plans for an Easter Hamper raffle at The Castle Inn Holcombe, a Tapas supper and Quiz at Teign Corinthian Yacht Club in March alongside a spot at a local car boot sale selling books, jigsaws and children’s toys. Anne is hoping that all of these fundraising activities will help her reach her target of £2,300 full details will be advertised on Teignmouth RNLI’s Facebook page when ready.
Supporters can also get involved by donating to her Just Giving site or indeed by sponsoring Anne and having your Company’s name on the back of her RNLI running shirt on the day,
Claude and Kath, the name of our new Atlantic 85, will be on the front of her shirt as she ‘wants the boat to ride with her on her journey as she did with The Two Anne’s last year’.
When asked how she feels ahead of this years marathon Anne said ‘I’m feeling up for the challenge, both the challenge of raising the funds needed to save lives at sea, and the challenge of completing the marathon in April’.
Wendy Richard Wood, Fundraising Chair of Teignmouth RNLI said that ‘Anne is inspiring’ and that ‘everyone at Teignmouth RNLI is cheering Anne on throughout her training, and are wishing her the best of luck’.
