Buckie RNLI volunteer crew deliver festive collection to local food bank
Buckie RNLI's volunteer crew have collected and donated a festive bundle of food and toys to Buckie & Findochty Salvation Army to help support families this Christmas
Over the past month, Buckie RNLI's volunteer crew have been collecting non-perishable foods and new toys at the lifeboat station for local families.
The donations were handed over at the lifeboat station on 18 December to Buckie & Findochty Salvation Army, which runs a food larder from its hall on New Street and provides vital support to the community at a time of growing need. This ensures families receive help in time for Christmas.
As an independent charity-led service, the RNLI relies on its volunteers not only for lifesaving operations but also for community engagement – this drive highlights their commitment beyond the call of duty.
The idea was spearheaded by volunteer coxswain of Buckie RNLI’s Severn class William Blannin, Mike Rennie, who wanted to give something back to a town that has always supported their lifeboat station. When he suggested the collection, the crew didn’t hesitate to join him in making it happen.
Mike Rennie said: ‘This was a chance for us as a crew and station to give a little back to the community that supports us so much. If we can make a difference to someone’s Christmas, it’s worth it.’
