Double Celebration - Honouring 30 Years of Service and Welcoming New Crew

Lifeboats News Release

St Peter Port Lifeboat Station is marking two special milestones. Celebrating three volunteers who have each dedicated 30 years of service and welcoming five new crew members, including the station's first female crew volunteer.

Robert Alder, Carl Bisson, and John Le Tissier are all celebrating 30 years of dedicated service to the St Peter Port Lifeboat Station. We thank them for being there for our community all year round, no matter the weather.

Richard Evans, Lifeboat Operations Manager said, the St Peter Port Lifeboat Station is fortunate to have an extremely dedicated, committed and experienced crew and the RNLI has recognised the commitment that Rob, Carl and John have given freely over the past 30 years.

The Station is delighted to welcome Alex Broad, George Melbourne, Luke Le Poidevin, and Luke Robert to the ‘one crew’ lifeboat family. Alex Broad, a nurse with A&E experience, holds a master’s degree in adult nursing and is a qualified life support instructor. George Melbourne is a skipper and Luke Le Poidevin an engineer, both work for Sark Shipping, with Luke Robert working for Travel Trident, bringing valuable expertise as a former naval engineer and commercial diver.

Alex Broad said, I am so excited to be a part of the lifeboat crew, and I’m especially proud to be the first female crew member! It means a lot to be a part of this incredible organisation and I look forward to getting stuck in, learning the ropes (literally!) and saving lives at sea.

During the first few weeks of training, the volunteers learn the layout of the lifeboat station and lifeboats, health and safety protocols, PPE (personal protective equipment), operational procedures, VHF radio communications, RNLI commitments, teamwork and ropework. The trainees then move on to undertaking exercises to prepare them for going to sea on Lifeboat shouts.
