Llandudno RNLI applauds achievement of Gareth Robinson

Lifeboats News Release

Llandudno RNLI is celebrating the success of volunteer crew member Gareth Robinson, who has passed his Tier 2 All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) pass-out. The assessment, held on Monday 4 August during a scheduled training exercise, was conducted by Coastal Lifeboat Trainer Simon Bunting.

The Tier 2 pass-out is a demanding evaluation, covering every skill needed to safely operate an ALB in challenging conditions. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in collision regulations, navigation, and emergency procedures, such as helming the lifeboat during a man overboard rescue as well as retaining the seamanship, anchoring, and towing skills from their earlier Tier 1 qualification.

Gareth’s test began with a 30-minute theory session before heading out for two hours of practical drills at sea. Under Simon’s supervision, Gareth displayed both technical precision and the calm teamwork that are hallmarks of the RNLI crew.

Since joining in 2021, Gareth has shown remarkable dedication, already qualifying as an Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) Helm, ILB Head Launcher, and Casualty Carer. His next goal is to train as an ALB Navigator, a challenge he is eager to take on.

Llandudno RNLI is proud to have Gareth among its volunteers, whose skills and commitment help keep local waters safe all year-round.
