Launch on Service After Launch on Exercise!

Lifeboats News Release

Just after RNLB Rose had launched on exercise Coxswain Phil Woodcock was contacted by Falmouth Coastguard to divert from the original exercise schedule to assist a 40ft catamaran in a position of 500 metres west of St Michael’s Mount.

Rehousing just before 10pm
With 3 persons on board the vessel had suffered a fouled anchor which was thought to have been caused by a snag on the seabed and which the casualties were unable to release. RNLB Rose proceeded straight to the catamaran’s location given by Falmouth Coastguard, arriving there shortly after 7pm. Sea conditions on scene were described as moderate.

Following a thorough assessment of the situation and having been unable to release the anchor, the decision was taken to cut it away, securing it with marker buoys and informing the Coastguard of its position. RNLB Rose then safely escorted the vessel in to Newlyn harbour shortly before 9pm allowing the lifeboat to return to her station at The Lizard once the vessel had been made secure.

The lifeboat had arrived back at Kilcobben Cove by 10pm where she was rehoused, refuelled and made ready for service again when required.
