Dawn Reade, new LOM at Tobermory Lifeboat Station

Dawn began volunteering as a Lauch Authority in November 2023 after responding to an advert, and being well acquainted with the work of Tobermory RNLI and with many of the station’s volunteers and staff. Along with her husband, she founded the successful Island Bakery in 1994 and also works as a graphic designer and artist. She has two sons, one of whom skippers a local excursion vessel and she is comforted knowing the volunteer crew are on hand to respond to their pagers if needed for anyone in trouble at sea. In March, Dawn visited the RNLI College in Poole to undergo training for the LOM role, an experience that she found invaluable for her new role.

All at Tobermory Lifeboat Station welcome Dawn and look forward to working together to continue saving lives at sea. Dawn said: ‘I’m delighted to play a role in managing Tobermory Lifeboat station and be a part of its One Crew. It’s a privilege to see the dedication and commitment that everyone here brings to their role whatever that might be. I must also acknowledge that taking on the Lifeboat Operations Manager post is bittersweet, as it is only after the loss of our previous, much-missed LOM, Sam Jones, that I have been recruited to the job.’
