The RNLI are looking for new lifeguards in Somerset ahead of the 2025 season
Do you have what it takes to become an RNLI lifeguard? The RNLI are currently looking for new lifeguards for the upcoming peak season, (Mid-June to September), on beaches at Burnham-on-Sea and Brean in Somerset.
Latest statistics reveal that in 2024, RNLI lifeguards in the south west responded to 6,892 incidents, aided 9,178 people and saved 43 lives.
If you are fit, love being in the sea and on the beach and want to make a difference to the local community then this role could be perfect for you. RNLI lifeguards are offered competitive rates of pay and continuous on-the-job training- it’s a work environment like no other.
The RNLI have designed a specific training course for prospective lifeguards. The course will run on dates from late May - June and will take place at Weston Beach in North Somerset. The accessibility of the beach makes it ideal for training, although it is not one of our lifeguard patrolled locations.
Following the training course there will then be an assessment day in June.
The course will teach applicants rescue skills, how to perform first aid, core lifeguard skills, as well as fitness and classroom sessions.

‘Preparations for the 2025 lifeguard season are underway and we’ve opened up recruitment ahead of the new season looking to add to our fantastic team before we head back onto the beaches.
‘Being an RNLI lifeguard is a job like no other where you will get world class training in rescue techniques and casualty care, access to specialist equipment training all whilst being part of a team that helps keep people safe whilst they enjoy the beach.’
Applicants need to be aged 16+ on the day of the assessment, able to swim 400m in under 8 minutes in a pool, run 200 metres in less than 50 seconds on soft sand and be looking to apply to the local Sedgemoor RNLI beach lifeguard service.
The course cost is £55 which includes SLGSB membership, assessment fee and course manuals.
