The RNLI and Lost Shore Surf Resort host Mayday event
On Sunday 11 May, the RNLI and Lost Shore Surf Resort will be joining forces to host an epic day at the resort based in Ratho to raise funds for the RNLI this Mayday.
The RNLI and Lost Shore Surf Resort are hosting an unforgettable day full of fun to raise vital funds and water safety awareness on Sunday 11 May, perfect for anyone seeking an action packed, family friendly day out.
Taking place at Lost Shore - Europe’s largest inland surfing destination - the Mayday event will bring together activities, challenges and demonstrations for all ages, in support of the RNLI’s Mayday campaign to help continue to save lives at sea.
This May, the RNLI is encouraging everyone to support their Mayday campaign after the charity revealed they saved twice as many lives in 2024 compared to 2023, with Scottish lifeboats launching 1,182 times last year.
Paul McKeown, RNLI Fundraising and Partnerships Lead in Scotland, says: ‘The RNLI depends on public support to continue saving lives at sea, and this event is an incredible way to get people involved. Whether you’re surfing, dipping, or just soaking up the atmosphere, every penny raised will go towards keeping people safe in and around the water.’
Throughout the day visitors can watch professional lifeguards in action during live rescue demonstrations, take part in surf lifesaving drills, and get involved with a selection of challenges, whether it be the Mayday 5k, the family mile or a sponsored swim.
Visitors of all ages can also meet volunteer lifeboat crew members, try on RNLI gear, and enjoy a wealth of interactive water safety experiences and advice. Water safety educators will be on hand to demonstrate visitors with vital lifesaving techniques, such as Float to Live, how to combat cold-water shock, and impactful information on recognising and overcoming the dangers of rip currents.
Lee Wood, Surf & Hospitality Director at Lost Shore Surf Resort, says: ‘Lost Shore is proud to support the RNLI in raising awareness of water safety. This event is a great opportunity for the community to come together, take part in fun activities, and raise vital funds for such an important charity.’
There will also be a Ride the Wave surf session, a raffle full of fantastic prizes to win, and a fundraising meal deal on a classic seaside themed favourite - fish and chips!
Lost Shore welcomes all levels of experience and interest, whether you are a surfer, a runner, or just looking for a fun and meaningful way to spend the weekend, this is an event not to be missed. The event is free to attend but tickets must be pre-purchased for our sponsored events, cold water dip and kid’s lifesaving course. Proceeds will be donated to the RNLI.Visit RNLI x Lost Shore for more information and to book.
