Mike has taken on the role of Chair of Montrose RNLI Lifeboat Management Group, taking over from Jim Calder who had dedicated 21 years of service in the voluntary position. The Lifeboat Management Group meet regularly to discuss all matters relating to the RNLI locally in the town and comprises volunteers from Crew, Operations, Fundraising, Finance, Shop, Visits, Media, and water Safety.

On taking on his new role, Mike says: 'I am extremely pleased and honoured to be able to join such a fine organisation as the RNLI. To be able to work alongside the fine dedicated team in Montrose offers me the opportunity to do good while being involved in the local community. I look forward with excitement to being involved from my new position.'

Mike started his career in the Merchant Navy and following a spell in the army returned to work in the North Sea on standby safety vessels. He has subsequently spent 35 years working in the Middle East and Asia, mainly in the testing, inspection and certification sector. During his career Mike has sat on and chaired several committees both in company and within organisations such as the TIC Council (formerly IFIA). Mike moved back to Montrose in 2020 from Shanghai having taken early retirement from his last position as VP North Asia for an international inspection company.

Lifeboat Operations Manager, Derek Smart says, ‘Mike’s leadership experience and passion for the RNLI make him a fantastic choice as Chair. His strategic vision, combined with his experience of chairing several committees during his career will help ensure that Montrose RNLI continues to thrive as part of the wider community.'

Please join us in welcoming Mike and wishing him success in his new role.
