The Beaumaris Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington with her volunteer crew launched at 9.55 am and proceeded to the area.

In addition to the Beaumaris lifeboat volunteers, the Mobile Coastguard Rescue Team from Penmon had been tasked to attend. In case their assistance would be required in placing the vessel alongside Menai Bridge pier.

Once at the scene the casualty vessel was alongside another craft with her anchor chain caught up in a mooring rope, in view of the strength of the current it was doubtful if this would hold the vessel overnight.

Having ensured that all was well with the two adults aboard, an assessment was made by the helm as to the best course of action. It was decided for safety reasons, such as the building strength of the tidal currents and that the casualty vessel had engine failure so was unable to navigate to a place of safety, that the boat should be towed to the nearest safe location. This was the all-weather mooring at Menai Bridge, as the pier was unavailable due to other vessels being alongside.

Once this had been completed the lifeboat was released by the Coastguard to return to her station at Beaumaris returning at 10.53 am to be refuelled and cleaned. Once this had been completed the crew left the station.

A RNLI spokesman said: ‘The crew aboard the boat did the correct thing in requesting assistance once they became aware of the strength of the tide.
