Redbourn Golf Club raises more than £17000 for RNLI
St Albans and district fundraising branch were presented with a cheque for over £17,500 on 11 February 2025 from the Redbourn Golf Club.
Since February 2024, Redbourn Golf Club have fundraised for the RNLI through events and collections.
The RNLI was chosen as Redbourn Golf Club’s charity for the year by their 2024 Captains, Neil Marcus and Linda Hill. Throughout the year, a variety of fundraising events were organised by the golf club, including prize draws, raffles, golf challenge days, bingo nights, and charity golf days.
The fundraising branch also attended multiple events at the golf club to sell RNLI souvenirs and gifts to supporters.
Neil Marcus, 2024 Men’s Captain of Redbourn Golf Club, said: ‘I am personally in awe of what lifeboat crews do. Being the RNLI's 200th anniversary year, it was a perfect opportunity to fundraise for the charity. Since Redbourn Golf Club in Hertfordshire was established 50 years ago, this is the highest amount ever raised for charity. I am so proud that we achieved this during Linda and my captaincies.’
Kate Carroll, volunteer secretary at St Albans and district fundraising branch, said: ‘We were delighted to be presented with this donation from Redbourn Golf Club, and it’s members. 100% of money raised will go towards keeping RNLI lifeboat crew ready for the next call for help.’
Kate added: ‘St Albans and district fundraising branch are a group of about 20 volunteers who raise money to save lives at sea. The fundraising branch organise and run a variety of events, presentations and collections. Last year, the fundraising branch held a fish and chip supper, a quiz, coffee mornings, and collections on the street.’
97% of the RNLI’s frontline lifesavers are volunteers, including 5,700 volunteer lifeboat crew members at stations around the UK and Ireland. Without our incredible volunteer lifesavers, the RNLI could not provide a 24/7 lifesaving service.
