The 10m vessel with two persons on board, had experienced gearbox issues and was rendered powerless and drifting towards the local coastline. The lifeboat launched with a full compliment of volunteer crew on board and made best possible speed to the vessel's position.

Arriving on scene and with the vessel slowly drifting towards the shore, Coxswain Owain Williams decided that the safest option was to set up a tow, due to the fact the vessel had no means of navigating to safety and the people onboard had requested assistance from any nearby vessels but with no response. The lifeboat towed the vessel to the safety of Porthdinllaen Harbour, where the craft was placed on a mooring.

Coxswain Owain Williams added 'Unfortunately mechanical issues do happen, and the skipper made the correct decision by requesting assistance. The two persons on board were well equipped with life jackets and various means of calling for help. As always we were glad to be able to assist'.
