Borth RNLI voluntary crew members launch as the sun sets

At 8.45pm on Monday evening of (31 March), Borth lifeboat was tasked to assist in extracting a 12-year-old casualty from Picnic Island, an isolated location upstream from Aberdyfi.

The young male with a dislocated knee was assessed by the crews before being stretchered by Borth D class lifeboat to Aberdyfi RNLI Lifeboat Station to await an ambulance.

Especially big tides and the upstream location meant that the smaller Borth D class lifeboat was the better suited of two local lifeboats to assist in this evening call out.

Dave Reynolds Borth RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager said:

'Even though the sea conditions were calm, a very large incoming tide could have caused serious problems for the casualty, especially due to the remoteness of the location. Never hesitate to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard if you find yourself or see someone in trouble in or around the coast.'
