Liberty Trail walkers complete their fifth annual trek for Lyme Regis RNLI
Volunteer crew at Lyme Regis RNLI yesterday (29 September) welcomed seven friends as they completed their hike along the historic Liberty Trail from Ham Hill near Yeovil to the Cobb in Lyme Regis.
This was the fifth time the ‘Boots to Boats’ group has competed this walk raising £730 for the RNLI through sponsorship and donations. Walk organiser Mark Farrell (38) said: ‘We set off from Ham Hill on Friday morning and followed the historic route that villagers took to join to the ill-fated Monmouth Rebellion in 1685. Once again, we collected money for the RNLI, a charity which we all truly believe in, and which celebrates its 200th anniversary this year.’
Accompanying Mark for the walk were son Lewis (17), Nick Perry (38), Jack Barrow (35), Ashley Clark (39), Davey Thomas (27) and Jay Grama (29). The final member of the team was their mascot ‘Ace’, an 18-month-old puppy who has completed the walk for the second time.
Volunteer Visits Officer and Head Launcher Petrina Muscroft said: ‘It was great to welcome the Liberty Trail walkers to the lifeboat station again this afternoon and we congratulate them on their efforts. For the fifth year running they have made a generous donation to the RNLI, funds that we need to keep our lifeboat crew fully equipped and trained.’
