Sligo Bay RNLI volunteer crew raise over €6,500 at their 23rd Seafood Night
The volunteer lifeboat crew of Sligo Bay RNLI served up another fish supper on 27 September to over 160 guests at The Strand Bar in Strandhill. The seafood night raised over €6,500, all of which will go towards training and equipping the station's volunteers to continue helping save lives at sea.
The night is one of the highlights in Sligo Bay RNLI's fundraising calendar, where the volunteer crew serve up delicious seafood chowder and platters of fresh local seafood with the help of the chefs and kitchen staff in The Strand Bar, Strandhill. The event always receives amazing support from the local communities.
Since the Seafood night last year, the inshore lifeboat Sheila and Dennis Tongue, has launched 45 times, rescued or assisted 60 people, saved one life and completed 70 training exercises.
The success of the event is down to main sponsor, Starcrest Seafoods and Port2Door, everyone who buys a ticket for the night, all who donated money or spot prizes and the wonderful staff of The Strand Bar in Strandhill who make it all happen in the kitchen.
Speaking before the event Alma McClay said ‘Once again, we are delighted to sponsor the Sligo Bay RNLI’s annual fundraiser in Sligo. Without the heroic efforts of this organisation our industry would struggle to exist, the peace of mind they bring to fisherman of not only this country but further afield is incalculable not to mention the many other industries and recreations that use of waters.
On behalf of Brandon, myself and all the team at Starcrest Seafoods and Port2Door we wish you every success.’
